Juaso (Ash), Nov. 21, GNA - A 60-year-old farmer was last Monday granted a 30 million-cedi bail by the Juaso circuit court for allegedly defiling a 13-year-old girl.

Kofi Ampadu pleaded not guilty and will re-appear on November 22. Police Chief Inspector K.I. Mahama of the Juaso police told the court, presided over by Mr Jacob Boon that Ampadu and the victim were all residents of Kwahu-Jamasi, near the Pra River in the Asante-Akim South district.

He said on October 18, this year at about 1600 hours, the accused, who lived at the outskirts of the town, spotted the victim on her way to the farm and called her to assist him to gather cocoa pods he had plucked in his farm.

Chief Inspector Mahama said after gathering the cocoa pods, the accused asked the victim to help carry the pods to his house, which was nearby.

He said when they got to the house, Ampadu asked the victim to fetch water from his room for him only to follow her into the room where he pushed her to his bed and forcibly had sex with her. While the act was going on, the prosecution said, the victim kept screaming in pain and this attracted the attention of a witness, who was returning from farm.

The court heard that the witness went to rescue the victim and sent her to the mother who reported the case to the Pra River police. Chief Inspector Mahama said the victim was issued with a medical report form to the hospital and Ampadu was later arrested.
