Be ambassadors of change areas council members urged

Breman Asikuma (C/R), Nov. 18, GNA - Mr. Emmanuel Adjei Domson, the Asikuma-Odoben-Breman District Chief Executive, has urged Area Council Members to be ambassadors of change in the rural areas. He asked them to tackle their assignments with zeal, endeavour not only to mobilize community members to undertake development projects but also to sensitise them, to understand the decentralisation process, fight poverty, disease and hunger.

Mr Domson's speech was delivered on his behalf by Mr Godwin K. Dzokpo, the community-based rural development project co-ordinator for the district, at the close of a four days capacity building workshop at Breman Asikuma on Friday.

It was organised by the Ministry of Local Government for 125 area council members, to up-date their knowledge, of promoting effective appropriate and participating community development in support of the decentralisation processing.

He called on them to utilise what they have learnt for the benefit of the people, adding that they should be selfless, patriotic to justify the huge investment the government had made in the area council programme. The facilitators were Mr. Erasmus Ayaa Otoo, Mr. Samuel Asiedu, Mr. Theophilus Rizeiro and Mr Samuel Agyarko Larbi, took them through strengthen institutional capacity at the district level as a way of improving the efficiency of rural resources transferred and to ensure the sustainability of poverty reducing interventions.

Also to identify plans, implement and maintain small-scale village level infrastructure, decentralisation policies, the District Assembly concept and the Area Council, its establishment and roles.
