The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is set to host the Awomefia of Anlo State, Togbui Sri III, in a historic visit at the Manhyia Palace this weekend

The visit of Togbui Sri III, is on the back of an invitation extended to him by the Asantehene.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Chief of Staff of the Manhyia Palace, Kofi Badu, he said the Akwasidae would mark the celebration of the long-standing friendship between the Asanteman and the Anlo state as part of the Otumfuo's efforts in promoting national unity and inter-ethnic cohesion.

The Anlo Overlord will be the Special Guest of the Asantehene for this year’s final Akwasidae celebration scheduled for Sunday, December 16, 2018 at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.

The Akwasidae Festival is celebrated by the Ashanti people and chiefs in Ashanti, as well as Ashantis in the diaspora. The festival is celebrated on a Sunday, once every six weeks.

The Akan annual calendar is divided into nine parts, each lasting approximately six weeks, but varying between 40–42 days in a period; the celebration of this period is called the Adae Festival.

The Adae Festival has two celebration days: the Akwasidae Festival is celebrated on the final Sunday of the period, while the Awukudae Festival is celebrated on a Wednesday within the period.

The Awomefia of Anlo State is expected to travel with an entourage of some 150 people to the ceremony, which would showcase the rich cultural heritage of the two ancient traditional states in Ghana.
