The Minister of Communications says 1.2 million addresses have so far been verified with 11,000 properties identified through the national digital and property addressing system, GHPostGPS.

Ursula Owusu made this known when she took her turn at the Meet the Press Series in Accra.

According to the Minister, Ghana Post is working hard to increase digital address generations.

She further indicated that, although digital address generation is free, property tagging comes at a fee.

“The system has attained some milestones. There are 1,200,000 registered and verified addresses. The system has also recorded 7,787,899 address searches, 11,000 tagged properties and 20,000 digital address deliveries.”

“To encourage and promote the generation of the digital addresses nationwide, Ghana Post through its field agents have engaged in a house to house generation of the digital addresses for free, and tagging of properties for a fee upon request by the property owner.”

The National Digital Property Address System, otherwise known as GHPostGPS, is a global addressing system launched in October 2017 by the President to provide effective means of addressing every location and property to facilitate the implementation of key government policies.

Vokacom is partnering the Ghana Post Company Limited to roll it out, with the National Information Technology Agency (NITA) hosting the data.

The fees are GHs 50.00 for homes, and GHs 100.00 for commercial properties.
