GIMPA Scholar Out With New Book, “Made In Ghana”

A new book, “Made in Ghana: Reflections on Governance and Power Shifts,” will be launched in Accra on Friday.

The book is authored by Lord Mawuko-Yevugah, PhD, Head of Department for Public Management and International Relations in the School of Public Service and Governance at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).

The book, which will be launched at the GIMPA Executive Conference Center on Friday, December 14, 2018 at 2 pm, is a collection of essays on wide-ranging issues highlighting the challenges of democratic governance and socio-economic transformation in Ghana and Africa within the context of changing power dynamics at the global level and the implications of these changes for the liberal political and economic architecture both locally and globally.

According to the author, the book also offers critical reflections on challenges of democratic governance for developmental transformation in Ghana and Africa broadly. “It is an attempt to sketch out the changing power dynamics and implications of seismic power shifts in the contemporary global system,” he further explains.

Dr Mawuko-Yevugah, who is also an Adjunct Faculty of Politics and International Relations at Lancaster University, Ghana, further asserts that the book is in three broad parts and a total of thirty one chapters.

“Part One focuses on the political economy of governance in Ghana, analyzing the challenges of democratic consolidation and the interplay of forces shaping the country's quest at achieving economic transformation within the country's current democratic dispensation.

“Part Two focuses on specific issues in the country's broader social economy and challenges of the nation-building project, focusing on ethical leadership, the moral economy, state-society relations, citizenship and security,” he said.

Dr. MAWUKO-YEVUGAH, who is a Legon and Cambridge (Legbridge) educated international political economist with a doctorate in Political Science from the University of Alberta, Canada, said, “Part Three deals with Africa and developments in the broader global political economy, focusing on the crisis of American-led western capitalism and neoliberalism and the prospects of a new global order.

The book has been reviewed by renowned scholars including, Dr Lloyd G. Adu Amoah, Director, Center for Asian Studies, University of Ghana), Dr Amy Niang, International Relations, University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa and Visiting Professor, University of São Paulo, Brazil), Dr. Isaac K. Odoom, Department of Political Science, University of Alberta, Canada) among others.

Dr Mawuko-Yevugah is the author of a number of books including, Africa Time: Essays on contemporary politics and governance (AuthorHouse, 2013); African Youth Cultures in a Globalized World: Challenges, Agency and Resistance (Ashgate, 2015); Reinventing Development: Aid Reform and Technologies of Governance in Ghana (Routledge, 2016).
