The worse Farmers' Day ever experienced- Hon. Ahiafor
12.12.2018 LISTEN

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Akasti South in the Volta region, Hon. Benard Ahiafor has expressed worry over government's failure to offer inadequate support to farmers; which has therefore led to low attendance on the just ended Farmers' Day.

The MP expressed his worry when he paid visit to his constituency and used the opportunity to attend the 34th National Farmers' Day at the Akasti South District.

Hon Ahiafor addressing farmers at the 34th National Farmers Day celebration, said the turn-out of this and the immediate past years are very low, as compared to the other years.

"I am sad and worried today because Farmers' interests in the day's celebrations have dropped drastically," Hon Ahiafor said.

"Today being a farmers day is the worse Farmers' Day, I have ever experienced since I used to be a member of the Agriculture Committee, of which in the 7th Parliament I am not a member, but still a friend to the Agriculture Committee" the Law Maker expressed.

He disclosed with dismay about how farmers from other parts of the country are cutting down their cocoa plantations for replacement of either cashew nut or rubber and said this poses as a threat to future agricultural development since cocoa is the number cash crop for the country's economy.
