My Priority Is To Put Up Community Library To The Youth From Hard Drugs--Ama Pokuaa

Bildog Ohne Greeten Education without Border, (BILDOG) an NGO based in Germany has donated educational materials/musical instruments to some schools in the Nkwabeng Community in the Nkoranza South Municipality in the Brong-Ahafo region.

The items donated included footballs, basketballs, guitars, violins, pianos, as well as teaching and learning materials.

The beneficiary schools included R/C Primary and JHS, Presby A and B Primary and JHS and the SDA Primary and JHS.

Presenting the materials, Madam Ama Pokua, Executive Director of Bildog said when she visited the area in 2015 she realised most of the school children were needy and she therefore decided to seek support from individual and corporate donors in Hamburg to assist in providing learning materials for the children.

According to her, every child has a talent which must be developed to enable them make meaningful contribution national development.

Madam Am Pokua observed that unlike in the western world where talents are easily identified and developed, the case is different in Ghana.

She hoped that the provision of the instruments would greatly assist in harnessing the musical talents in the children.

Madam Ama Pokua also revealed plans to build a community center for the school.

According to her the construction of the center would engage the in fruitful activities rather than indulging in vices such use of tramadol and hard drugs.

“if we provide a place for the youth for recreational and educational activities, the use of hard drugs and other practice of social vices would be minimized”, she said.

She hinted that later, she would introduce scholarship scheme for school children in the area.

The Chief of Nkwabeng, Nana Donyina Kuffour Kyere, commended Bildog for donating the instruments to the schools, and appealed to management of the schools to maintain them.

He noted that there are many indigenes of Nkwabeng residing overseas and appealed to them to also assist in developing the community.

Nana Kuffour Kyere said the community has no clinic and appealed for support to construct one for the area.

A representative of the Nkoranza South Directorate of the Ghana Education Service, (GES), Mr. Nicholas Frimpong, observed that the items would enhance the teaching and learning of music which is an economically viable venture worldwide.

“Today music is taught in the JHS/SHS and the provision of musical instruments would play key roles in music education for the beneficiary schools”, he said.

According to him, some children cannot continue their education and would need a vocation such as music to live life meaningfully. He, therefore, commended Madam Ama Pokua for assisting the schools with the musical instruments.
