11.12.2018 LISTEN

Alan John ‘Fiyin’ Beales Jnr. is a 9 year old boy who participated in the first Women’s 5K Run on none-scoring basis and was actually the first person to cross the finish line in a good time of 23 minutes and 26 seconds at a speed of 12.41km/h, starting and ending at the Marina Mall.

Because he was male, he was not awarded a prize, but he told Yours Truly the race was part of his preparations and training for bigger things in the future.

The 8th of ten children has a dream and ambition of becoming Ghana’s best long-distance runner and ever since his parents realized the talent, they have encouraged him to take part in many events.

The Cantoments Soul Clinic international school pupil who just turned 9 on November 21 is in class 3 and has the self-cultivated desire to run, and has been running since age 3.

His best sport is athletics and he loves to do the middle distance races.

According to his father, Alan Beales Snr, his son is self- motivated to run, as he thinks he is being chased by giant crabs, so runs faster not to be caught.

He takes inspiration from Kenyan Samuel Mungara who he met this year before the 2018 Millennium Marathon and just wants to be a running champion.

Alan Jnr. was present at the 2018 Millennium Marathon and did well as one of the kids to complete the race. He competed in the Ghana First Sports 12K at the University of Ghana, Kiddy Mile and frequently runs the Decathlon 5K Runs.

He regularly trains at the El Wak Stadium under coach Ibrahim Sulley who also believes the boy has the potential to be a super champion for Ghana in the future and must be nurtured and groomed to realize his hearts desire.

His dad said optimistically by 2024, Fiyin as he loves to call him will be one of the stars to watch, and in 2026 at age 17 he may be starring at the Commonwealth Games, then in 2028 at 19 may go for the Olympic Games.

He thanked the Millennium Marathon Sports Ltd for organizing the events that has made him discovered the talent and skill of his son.
