CiMAF Donates Cement To KNUST CABE

A Moroccan cement producing company in Ghana CiMAF Ghana Limited has supported the College of Arts and Built Environment (CABE) of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) with 100 bags of cement.

This is in support of the construction of a six-storey lecture halls and offices complex for the College.

Nana Yaa Konadu, Head of Brands at CiMAF, said the donation formed part of the corporate social responsibility of the company and to also help establish partnership with the premier institution in the training of professionals in the built environment.

It was also to introduce the high quality CiMAF Cement brand to the next generation of construction industry players, while creating opportunity for both faculty members and students to attest to the quality of the brand in the building and construction environment.

Ms. Konadu pledged her company's readiness to continue to collaborate with CABE in areas of training, research, staff and students exchange programmes.

Receiving the bags of cement on behalf of the College, Professor Joshua Ayarkwa, Provost of the College, welcomed the donation and said it was a prompt response to the appeal made by the College for support towards the early completion of the Complex.

Professor Ayarkwa explained that, student enrolment at the KNUST currently stood at over 40,000 and this had become a challenge to the managers of the university.

The number was likely to increase in the next two years due to the implementation of the free senior high school policy.

The construction of the Complex had therefore, become crucial in view of the high number of students expected to be admitted to the College in the coming years.

Prof. Ayarkwa said the project was being undertaking with internally generated funds of the College. And that, and appealed to individuals and corporate organizations to assist to complete the project on time.

He said the use of the cement for the project would help the experts to identify the ingredients used and make positive recommendations to players in the built environment as well as help promote the quality standards on the Ghanaian market.
