The Nsaba Presbyterian Senior High School (NSASS),has been given the greenlight and upgraded to become a model school under the Secondary Education Improvement Project introduced by the government.

Following the approval, the school has received a six-unit classroom block, two girls' dormitories, 34-seater bus, a pick-up and a Science Resource Centre with equipment to raise academic performance.

Mr David Aning-Yebo, the Headmaster of the NSASS, made this known at the annual general meeting of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) of the school at Nsaba in the Agona East District of the Central Region.

He said other provisions the school had benefited are Information Communication Technology (ICT) laboratory and the establishment of a French language laboratory to improve on the teaching of the subject.

Mr Aning-Yebo said the NSASS is now among 106 additional schools in the country selected to benefit from the project.

He commended the government for the gesture and said this would help enhance quality teaching and learning and lauded the members of the PTA for their immense contributions towards the realization of the aims and objectives of the school.

He said the PTA has provided support in the construction of the school block, the ICT laboratory, enhanced security, refurbishment of the science laboratory and the construction of the school walls.

The Headmaster said the provision of the bole-hole is a great relief to the school.

Mr Aning-Yebo said the Agona East District Assembly has also contributed in providing a sick bay with healthcare staff and equipment to cater for the students.

He denied rumours being speculated that the male teachers of the school were having affairs with female students and challenged those making the false allegations to come forward with evidence to enable the authorities to deal with such teachers.

'Parents have brought their girls to the school purposely to learn to become responsible adults in future and not to marry,' he said, and assured the parents that everything would be done to protect the students, especially the girls.

Mr Albert Quainoo, the PTA Chairman of NSASS, said the school is confronted with some challenges such as the provision of electricity generating plant and security among others and called on the PTA members to intervene to help enhance teaching and learning in the school.

He said government has granted autonomy to PTAs and now they could take decisions on their own as they now have a regulatory council that administers all associations of all secondary institutions in the country.
