Ekumfi Essarkyir (C/R), Nov. 17, GNA - The government has donated 25 television sets worth over 100 million cedis to a number of basic and second cycle schools in the Mfantseman District to promote the Distance Education Programme.

Mfantseman Girls Secondary School, Mankessim Secondary Technical, Saltpond Methodist High School, Anomabo Kwegyir Aggrey Secondary, Biriwa Vocational Centre, Ekumfi T.I. Ahmadiyya Secondary and Abeadze Dominase Commercial Institute were the beneficiaries in the second cycle schools. The remaining 18 sets were distributed among the eight circuits in the District.

The District Chief Executive (DCE), Mr Robert Quainoo-Arthur and the District Director of Education Miss Vivian Etroo, who jointly made the distribution, admonished the beneficiaries to use them strictly for the purpose for which they were donated.

Mr Quainoo-Arthur said the government was determined to use Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to enhance teaching and learning in the country and urged teachers and students to take advantage of it.

Miss Etroo cautioned that the sets were not meant for viewing Akan Drama or concert shows.

The heads of the beneficiary schools expressed gratitude for the gesture and appealed to the government to provide them with video decks to enable them to record the lessons for future use since some of programmes coincided with other lessons.
