Newmont Ghana’s Ahafo mine has donated 10 refuse containers worth GHc.120,000 to the Asutifi North District Assembly to support the management of waste in the district.

Presenting the items, Joseph Danso, Social Responsibility Manager for the Ahafo mine, said as responsible stewards of the environment, the mine thought it prudent to allocate some funds to support waste management in line with the Sustainable Development Goal 3 which is ensuring healthy lives and promoting wellbeing for all, and Goal 6 which ensures availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation.

These are contained in a Statement issued by the mining giant to the media.

According to the Statement, Mr. Joseph Danso urged the District Assembly and other stakeholders to promote healthy and hygienic lifestyles to reduce the disease burden which significantly impacts on the national budget.

The statement quotes Mr. Joseph Danso as saying that the company “will continue to collaborate with all stakeholders to create value and improve lives through sustainable and responsible mining” said Mr. Danso on behalf of Newmont.

Receiving the items on behalf of the Assembly, George Padmore Mensah, the District Coordinating Director, expressed his appreciation to Newmont for their support in managing waste in the district and believes it will go a long way in improving the standard of living of the people in the district. He also promised to ensure that the containers are well maintained in order to optimize its value.
