Hasowodze MA Primary Pupils Cry For Help
02.12.2018 LISTEN

Pupils of Hasowodze M/A Primary School at Kormantse in the Mfantseman District of the Central Region, are forced to sit in classrooms with half the roofs almost gone. School authorities say the situation is negatively affecting teaching and learning.

“Teachers are forced to stand in the scorching sun and teach students as a result of the unavailability of some roofing sheets in some portions of the classrooms,” an opinion leader of the town told Citi News.

Although not all the classroom blocks of the school are in ruins, a majority of them need renovation.

Speaking to Citi News, Isaiah Tettey Attah, a member of the Parents Teacher Association (PTA) of the school, said the deplorable nature of the school is as a result of neglect by authorities who have turned a blind eye to the situation.

He indicated that the community together with the PTA, contributed monies to help purchase roofing sheets, but at a point in time, monies were not forthcoming so the project halted.

He again intimated that, what broke the camel’s back was the fact that a carpenter who they hired to fix the roof of the school in the process of fixing it, fell from the roof and got injured, adding that this discouraged the community members from fixing the roof.

“The carpenter fell from the roof and got injured and this discouraged the community members from fixing the roof of the school,” he intimated.

He indicated that they have written to the Mfansteman Municipal Assembly and the Ghana Education Service at Mfantseman but all to no avail

Reverend Bonny the, the PTA Chair of Hasowodze M/A Primary School indicated that they are only fighting for school children of Hasowodze Primary School to get their share of the national cake.

The headmaster of the School, Jacob Amissah, told Citi News that “at certain times when it rains, the only option we have is to stop the teaching process and send the students home.”

However, Rev. Bonney said they are only fighting for school children of Hasowodze M/A Primary School to get what they deserve.

The Municipal Chief Executive for Mfantseman Municipality, Hon. Kenneth Essuman, explained that plans are far advanced to re-roof the dilapidated structure which would cost the Assembly 64,000 GHC.

He was optimistic that the roofing work would start in December when schools are on vacation, adding that by January,2019, the project would have been ready to accommodate new students.

“We will finish re-roofing of Hasowodze M/A Basic school before school reopens in January for the next academic year” the MCE stated.
