Fire Service Raises Alert As Harmattan Draws Near
27.11.2018 LISTEN

As the Harmattan season beckons, there is likely to be potential fire outbreaks hence the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) is raising concerns on the need to handle naked fire with caution.

The fire service is urging the general public to handle naked fires with care even as the harmattan sets in.

As part of efforts to drive the fire awareness campaign, the Brong-Ahafo Regional Fire Service has rolled out its bushfire fire prevention campaign in the region.

The service predicted severity in this 2018/2019 harmattan season, warning that fire setters would be prosecuted.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on the sidelines of a procession the GNFS organized as part of the launching ceremony in Sunyani, Assistant Divisional Officer Grade one (ADO1) Ruth Mensah-Tandoh, the Public Relations Officer of the Command said fire fighting remained a shared and collective responsibility, and appealed to the public to support the service.

The public, she explained could help if they join the GNFS to intensify its fire prevention campaign in the communities and fire prone areas.

ADO1 Mensah-Tandoh said Sunyani would host this year's national launch of the campaign slated for Friday November 30 on the theme ''our future depends on sustaining the environment, let us prevent bush fires' and called on the media to support the campaign.
