On the Run: The Era of Ewe Domination of Ghanaian Politics Is Over, Period!
24.11.2018 LISTEN

Those scandalously decrying the fact that no National Democratic Congress’ stalwart of Anlo-Ewe descent was elected at the party’s Delegates’ Congress this year, seem to have forgotten the grim fact that for 30 years, the Rawlings-led Sogakope or Anlo-Ewe Mafia dominated Ghana’s political culture, during which bleak and socialist-oriented experimental period our country witnessed the most divisive, regressive and grossly incompetent and lower-class insensitive policy measures at all levels of endeavor (See “’It’s Non-Negotiable: An Ewe or GaDangme Must Be Running Mate’ – Boakye-Djan to NDC” Classfmonline.com / Ghanaweb.com 11/19/18).

Rather, what we need to be looking at is the caliber of Ewes who participated in the most recent Delegates’ Congress of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), instead of hastily and unwisely throwing ethnic chauvinism amidst the debate, as political lightweights and minor-league players like Major (Rd) Boakye-Djan appear to be doing. For example, fielding a hardened criminal like Mr. Daniel Abodakpi, who appears to have been gratuitously rehabilitated by the equally criminally minded and Ewe-dominated leadership of the National Democratic Congress was not going wash with the rest of the country. The post of NDC’s National Chairman was simply too oversized for a political featherweight like Mr. Abodakpi, who spent quite a while in prison for recklessly causing financial loss to the State or some such case of official embezzlement of taxpayer funds.

If what the Anlo-Ewe Mafia wanted was having the most reprobate and criminal elements among its fold dominate party posts, then they ought to have seriously considered Mr. Alfred Agbesi Woyome, who has done far more to facilitate the wanton fleecing of Ghana for the benefit of the movers and shakers of the NDC than any single individual personality. Then also, having a rude, pathologically ethnocentric and passionately anti-Akan candidate like Mr. Koku Anyidoho contest the far more diplomatically savvy and politically astute and mature Mr. Johnson Asiedu-Nketia, aka General Mosquito, was a recipe for disaster for the Anlo-Ewe Cabal. My regular readers may vividly remember yours truly predicting that Mr. Anyidoho was highly unlikely to get a critical mass of delegate support outside of his Volta Region stronghold.

This morbidly arrogant reprobate with a repulsive sense of political entitlement was simply not going to inspire the confidence of non-Ewe Ghanaian congressional delegates, short of naked bribery and the Anlo-Ewe Cabal’s trademark intimidation tactics. In the case of Mr. Fred Agbenyo, the propagandistic suaveness of Mr. Samuel “Sammy” Gyamfi must have been simply too overwhelming to overcome, especially when it came to the question of fielding a candidate who was masterful enough, albeit rather disingenuous, to handle the propaganda machinery of the National Democratic Congress. I also don’t suppose that jaded and effete party internal critics like Major Boakye-Djan really care about the possibility of the NDC’s winning the 2020 general election. These critics seem to be far more fixated on political tokenism, a la Affirmative Action, than putting together a formidable team that commands a respectable track-record of competent performance and a progressive vision for the rapid modernization and qualitative development of the country.

You see, short of some Voodoonomic Magical Trick, there is absolutely no way that Ghanaian voters of either major party would want to waste their time and energy reelecting a thoroughgoing corrupt and incurably primitive spent force like Mr. John Dramani Mahama to take them back to the Stone-Age Era of caveman politics and another miserable life in a Hobbesian State of Nature.
