The Ashanti regional Director for the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Kwabena Nsenkyire has blamed the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly for the latest gas explosion which has claimed three lives.

Mr. Nsenkyire told news men that the lackadaisical attitude with which the assembly does its work is to be blamed for the explosion.

According to him a thorough work has been done on the Trinity gas station by his outfit and recommended its relocation or demolition, 'but the report is till with KMA till now'.

Saying he is not surprised at all at the explosion, Mr. Nsenkyire noted that he knew the explosion would surely happen.

The explosion which occurred early Tuesday morning reportedly claimed three lives, burnt more than 20 cars and destroyed properties worth millions.

Even though personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service were there early to salvage the situation, the destruction had occurred already and they managed to put out the fire which had consumed many things beyond recognition.

Nobody could tell the exact cause of the outbreak but eye witnesses say it could have been caused by some naked fire from one of the many houses surrounding the station, or from a mechanic shop close by.

Residents expressed their anger at city authorities claiming they had lodged several reports for the relocation of the gas filling station due to the growing number of residential houses and businesses around.

Fire personnel have began investigations into the possible cause of the outbreak.
