Hohoe Municipal Hospital To See Upgrade

Mr Ken Ofori-Atta, Minister of Finance has announced that Government has commenced the process of upgrading the Hohoe Municipal Hospital to a Regional Hospital.

Mr Ofori-Atta, who made this known in his presentation of the 2019 budget statement and financial policy of the government to Parliament on Thursday; also noted that the Volta Regional Hospital in Ho would be converted into a Teaching Hospital, whereas the Ho Municipal Hospital would be upgraded into a Regional Hospital.

He said the Government would construct a total of 15 Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds; two in the Greater Accra Region, five in Brong-Ahafo Region, two in Ashanti Region and three in the Eastern Region.

He said Government would also construct one District Hospital and five Polyclinics in Western Region and equip four selected facilities at Aburi, Kyebi, Atibie and Mampong.

'Structural work on the new 500-bed military hospital at Afari, near Kumasi, is about 65 per cent complete, and full completion expected in 2019. In 2019, work will also start on the 3rd phase of the 37 Military Hospital project in Accra,' he stated.

Mr Ofori-Atta said to address the inadequate health facilities that continue to bedevil Ghanaians; the Government had received Parliamentary approval for a $50 million loan to complete Phase II of the University of Ghana Medical School, which was awaiting the conclusion of a Value for Money audit.

The Minister noted that the days of ailing health insurance, 'were now behind us'; adding that 'We have re-energised the scheme, which is now able to settle its bills; thereby ensuring that many more Ghanaians have access to quality healthcare.'
