Tamale, Nov. 7, GNA - The Tamale Police have arrested five suspects in connection with an alleged mob attack on four Policemen at Dungu, a suburb of Tamale last Wednesday.

The suspects, Abukari Issah, 20, Alhassan Alhassan 40, Ibrahim Issahaku 26, Adam Alhassan 20 and Alhassan Seidu 53, have been remanded in prison custody, to re-appear on Tuesday November 8 by a Tamale Circuit.

It was alleged that some people from the Dungu community organised the attack against the Policemen sent to arrest a suspect in the attack on some Assembly members of the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) on October 31.

Briefing newsmen, the Northern Regional Police Commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ephraim Oko Brakatu, said last Thursday afternoon, one Haruna Iddi reported to the Police that one Adam Yakubu had assaulted him (Iddi) at Dungu.

He said some policemen were sent to invite Yakubu to the police station but met his absence at the village and left a note that Yakubu should report to the station.

ACP Brakatu said when the policemen were returning from the village, the inhabitants mobilised and attacked them. He said one of the policemen became unconscious while three others sustained injuries but did not mention the names of the policemen. He said those arrested had appeared before the Tamale Circuit Court and remanded in prison custody. They were; Bawa Abdul Jalil 24, Bawa Abdul Jafaru 20 and Bawa Bashiru 19.
