By Daily Graphic.

The National Chairman of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP) Dr Edmund Delle was involved in an accident on the Tamale – Kumasi road on last Saturday.

He was said to have developed severe waist pains and was rushed to the Kintampo government Hospital for medical care.

His driver was still trapped in the vehicle at the time Dr Delle was being conveyed to hospital around 5pm.

Sympathizers who rushed to the accident scene made frantic efforts to get the driver out of the mangled vehicle to the hospital.

A police source explained that the CPP leader was on his way to Accra after attending a CPP congress in the Northern region when his Toyota Land Cruiser was involved in a head-on collision with a State Transport Bus at Attaa Akuraa, a village between Kadriso and Kintampo.

The source said the impact of the collision caused extensive damage to Dr Delle's Toyota Land Cruiser.

It said the STC bus, which stopped 200 metres away from the accident spot, was however in good condition and the passengers did not complain of any injuries.

The source said Dr Delle told the medical officers that he was injured at the waist.

The cause of the accident is not yet known and the police are still conducting investigations.

The police say a cab driver who was at the spot joined volunteers to rush Dr Delle to the Kintampo Hospital whilst efforts were being made to rescue the driver who was trapped in the vehicle.

The source said following their critical conditions, Dr Delle appealed to the Defence minister, Dr Kwame Addo Kufuor to make necessary arrangements to transfer them to Accra where they hope to receive better health care.
