Tamale, Oct. 31, GNA - Thugs on Monday attacked Assembly Members of the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly when they convened to form sub-committees within the Assembly, injuring 10 members. The Presiding Member, Mr Hanaani Rahman Gundaa-Doo, sustained injuries on the head and left hand when unknown assailant lashed him with an iron chain.

Deputy Northern Regional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Kwabena Gyamera-Yeboah, told the GNA that Gundaa-Doo called the meeting of the Assembly members to form sub-committee this morning. But just as he got to the Assembly Hall, he received a call on his mobile phone and while he was on the phone, an unidentified assailant who was among the thugs who went there on motorbikes slapped him on the jaw. He followed up with a whip on the head with an iron chain. Clubs and metal bars were also used on some of the Assembly members who sustained injuries and were given Police Medical Forms to attend hospital.

Some of the injured who spoke to the Police, said they could identify the attackers but said they did not know their names while others said they could mention their names. Chief Superintendent Gyamera-Yeboah said the Police have asked the Assembly members to assist them to identify the assailants. Meanwhile, the Tamale Metropolis is calm.
