Mr Smith thanked the delegates for electing him and pledged to work hard to help ensure that the party wins the next general elections massively, in the region.

The national organiser, Mr Lord Commey, who swore the new regional executives into office, commended the delegates for the peaceful conduct of the elections.

Dr Ghartey told the delegates that he had accepted their choice of new chairman and said "the people have spoken, they have the power", and assured the new entrants of his support.
