Inspiring personalities - A Police Commander
20.10.2018 LISTEN

Commanding officers of the Ghana Police Service are known to work in the office and when they go out, they go to inspect the work of the men on the grounds.

But going on my usual assignment rounds, around the Nyamekye traffic light, I saw a Police Commander directing traffic.

Mr Samuel Owusu, a driver, whose trotro I boarded at Odorkor, said 'the man is doing a good work here, you will see him on regular occasions directing the cars even when the traffic light is on and his presence here has helped us a lot ''.

Another passenger said this is not the first time the commander is directing traffic and that he has noted his presence at other sections of the town.

With this and other comments made in the trotro about the officer, I felt the urge to know more and at the next junction, I disembarked.

The officer was Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Michael Asiedu, the Commander of the Odorkor Motor Transport and Traffic Unit (MTTU).

DSP Asiedu told the Ghana News Agency that his duty extends to every corner within his jurisdiction and the free flowing traffic of vehicles and pedestrians is of paramount concern to him.

I am motivated and my passion for the work grows when our daily targets are met and pedestrians or the general public is happy with our effort, he said.

Directing traffic should not surprise you, he said, adding that he has been on such routine over the past three years at various duty posts including the Madina District.

'Well, I would like to add that I support the MTTD Transformation Agenda and it is my prayer that all my colleagues will also support the process,' he said.

Speaking to some MTTU Police men in the same vicinity, they said, they are always inspired and motivated with the presence of their Head of Command directing traffic with them adding that they would continue in the effort to ensure that stated targets are met.
