Abura Obokor(C/R), Oct.28, GNA - The Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese district assembly has earmarked 245 million cedis to improve on the standard of education this year.

In addition, the assembly has increased the allowance for 100 teacher trainees being sponsored by the assembly from 300,000 cedis to one million cedis annually.

The trainees in some Teacher Training Colleges are expected to return to the district to help solve the acute shortage of teachers. This was announced by Mr Job Acquah-Markin, District Chief Executive, at a stakeholders meeting to review a School Improvement Plan initiated by the chiefs and people of Abura Obokor and Plan Ghana an NGO at Abura Obokor.

Mr. Acquah-Markin said education was key to development and advised parents to invest in their children's education instead of spending lavishly on funerals. Mrs Agnes Boadu Siaw, District Director of Education, asked parents to take advantage of the Capitation grants to enrol their children in school.

She pledged to liaise with stakeholders in education to ensure the provision of quality education to the children. Mr Samuel Gbor, Headmaster of Abura Obokor District Assembly Junior Secondary School, commended Plan Ghana for the assistance to teachers and students in the school. The management of Plan Ghana later presented books and stationary to the school for effective teaching and learning.
