12.10.2018 LISTEN

The Campus Forum for Democratic Principles is calling on the Inspector General Police (IGP) to arrest and prosecute the embattled Deputy Youth Organiser of NDC Joshua Akamba for inciting students of the Tempane Senior High School against the government.

The group is further demanding for the immediate removal of the Headmaster of the school with immediate effect.

A statement issued by the Convener of the group, Ike Yeboah Asante said they are shocked with regards to a video making rounds on social media showing a barbaric attitude of the Deputy Organizer of the major opposition party NDC, Mr. Joshua Akamba for trying to use the students of Tempane Senior High School (SHS) to stage public uprising against H.E Nana Akuffo Addo and the entire education system.

He noted that they see his action as a conspiracy to launch students uprising which could eventually degenerate to public uprising.

“We will be surprise if IGP fail to arrest, detain and prosecute Mr. Joshua Akamba because his action is tantamount to treason, of which Ghana Criminal Offences ACT - 1960 (ACT 29), Section - 180 which says “Any person who by himself or in concert with others by any violent or other unlawful means, suspends or overthrows or abrogates this Constitution or any part of it, or attempts to do any such act; or aids and abets in any manner any person referred to in paragraph (a) of this clause; commits the offence of high treason and shall, upon conviction, be sentenced to suffer death,” the Convener intimated

According to him, school children at this level ought to be protected from hate speeches and not be subjected to partisan infiltration and propaganda.

“Not only this indoctrination forbidden in any civil democratic society, but an act which our statutes vehemently frowns upon,” he stated.

Mr. Asante intimated that Mr. Akamba should have known better and having failed to realized that, it is therefore appropriate for the law of the land to teach him a lesson that could shape his moral fibre as a key member of a major political party in this country.

CAMPUS FORUM FOR DEMOCRATIC PRINCIPLES CALL ON IGP TO AS A MATTER OF URGENCY ARREST, DETAIN AND PROSECUTE DEPUTY YOUTH ORGANISER OF NDC, JOSHUA AKAMBA FOR TRYING TO LAUNCH STUDENTS UPRISING AGAINST THE GOVERNMENT AND FURTHER ASK FOR THE IMMIDIATE REMOVAL OF THE HEADMASTER OF TEMPANE SHS

Members of Campus Forum For Democratic Principles are shocked with regards to a video making rounds on social media with respect to the barbaric attitude of the Deputy Organizer of the major opposition party NDC, Mr. Joshua Akamba for trying to use the students of Tempane Senior High School (SHS) to stage public uprising against H.E Nana Akuffo Addo and the entire education system.

Campus Forum For Democratic Principles is asking IGP to as a matter of urgency arrest, detain and prosecute the Deputy Organizer of NDC, Joshua Akamba because we see his action at the Tempane SHS as an intention to mobilize students in the various SHS to launch students uprising which could eventually degenerate to public uprising.

We will be surprise if IGP fail to arrest, detain and prosecute Mr. Joshua Akamba because his action is tantamount to treason, of which GHANA CRIMINAL OFFENCES ACT - 1960 (ACT 29), Section - 180 talks about and the Constitution of our motherland Act3, Section3 also says “Any person who—

(a) by himself or in concert with others by any violent or other unlawful means, suspends or overthrows or abrogates this Constitution or any part of it, or attempts to do any such act; or

(b) aids and abets in any manner any person referred to in paragraph (a) of this clause; commits the offence of high treason and shall, upon conviction, be sentenced to suffer death.

We further see the move by Mr. Joshua Akamba as something he intended to exploit the ignorant of the students to his benefit which is also clearly against Child’s Act. The Children's (Amendment Act, 2016 (Act 937) defines Child Exploitation as “means the employment of a child in activities from which other derive a benefit whetrger financial, sexual or political.”

To Highlight what NDC Deputy National Youth Organizer, Mr Joshua Akamba did when he went to Tempane SHS, he is captured in a video mobilised a group of innocent Senior High School pupils of Tempane SHS in the Upper East Region against the Member of Parliament for the area and also the President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo to the extent that he asked the students to hoot at our President, Nana Akuffo Addo.

Mr. Joshua Akamba was trying to make the students believe that being at the SHS is a punishment from the government and by inference they should rise up against the government even if it is by foul means. He further intended to indoctrinate the students like what Bokom Haram in Nigeria and other terrorist groups normally do.

Not only this indoctrination forbidden in any civil democratic society, but an act which our statutes vehemently frowns upon.

Children at this level ought to be protected from hate speeches and not be subjected to that level of partisan infiltration and propaganda.

We think that Mr. Akamba should have known better and having failed to know better, we think it is appropriate for the law of the land to teach him a lesson that could shape his moral fibre as a key member of a major political party in this country.

The laws of the Ghana Education Service (GES) clearly frowns on the indulgence of Senior High School (SHS) students in partisan politics especially through the direct or indirect influence of a teacher on a school campus. This is vividly spelt out in items 14 and 34 under the Part 3 (Rules Of Conduct For Teachers) of the Teachers Code Of Conduct-Ghana.

Under the Item 14 (Ideological Influence), it reads "Teachers shall not use their positions to spread their political, religious or other ideologies among pupils and students". Also under the (ii) of Item 34 (Participation in Partisan Politics), it reads "No teacher shall in the performance of his/her duties engage in any activities that are likely to involve him/her in political controversy or lead to his/her taking improper advantage of his/her position in the Ghana Education Service (GES)". According to this same Teachers Code of Conduct- Ghana, items 14 and 34 under the Part 3 (Rules Of Conduct For Teachers) are considered under the minor and major categories of misconduct which have the likelihood to attract sanctions such as; Removal of one from GES, Dismissal, Withdrawal of ones certificate or license to teach, Suspension, Stoppage of increment, Reduction of rank or salary and others.

Since the allowance of Mr. Joshua Amidu Akamba, the deputy National Organizer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) by the school authorities to politically influence the SHS students of the respective schools on their respective campuses is a clear breach of the items 14 and 34 listed above, it will therefore be very proper for these Headmasters, Teachers and the other school authorities involved to be immediately sanctioned appropriately by the GES to help maintain sanity in the GES and on the various SHS campuses across the country.

We are reiterating that Ghana Education Service which is the employer of all the teachers and heads of schools in this country to immediately sack the Head Master of the school because we see it that it is either he rested on his responsibility as head of the school to ensure that such act didn’t take place or he connived and conspired with Mr. Akamba to launch student uprising.

We again, asking the headmaster of the school to render unqualified apology to the good people of Ghana and the parents of those students and also prove his innocence of the act if indeed he didn’t connive with irresponsible Joshua Akamba

Campus Forum For Democratic Principles is again asking Director General of Ghana Education Service, Dr. Anthony Nsiah-Asare and his team to vet all the heads of schools in order to get head teachers who have the students at heart and also willing to protect the Laws of GES and code of conduct at the Second Cycle of our education.
