Kumasi, Oct 27, GNA - The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expressed concern about conflicts, hatred, acrimony, indiscipline and other negative practices in the party and said the situation was affecting the development of the party.

It said such problems had made people to seek redress at the courts and this did not augur well for the Danquah-Busia tradition and appealed to executives and supporters to bury their differences and avoid such practices.

Mr Kofi Asante, a lecturer at the College of Art and Social Sciences and chairman of the KNUST branch of the NPP, said this at a press conference in Kumasi on Wednesday.

He said the National Delegates' Congress of the party would soon be held and appealed to the contestants to conduct their campaigns peacefully and avoid attacking their opponents.

Mr Asante said the KNUST branch of the NPP has declared its support for Mr Stephen Ayesu Ntim, the National First Vice-Chairman of the party, who is seeking for the position of chairman and appealed to the other executives to give him the nod.

He said about 80 per cent of the youth are in the party and stressed the need for the party to win the support of the youth to ensure the growth and development of the party.

"It is not the intention of our party to attack anybody but our interest is for the party to remain united to ensure victory in the 2008 elections", he added.

Mr Asante said the defeat of the party in the recent bye-elections at the Asawase and Odododioodo constituencies showed that most of the party's supporters failed to vote and appealed to the party to research into the problem and find solutions to it.

He said the 2008 elections is still at the corner and therefore appealed to the executives to adopt effective and pragmatic campaign strategies to ensure resounding victory for the party.
