UDS Navrongo Campus Welcomes 629 Freshers

Authorities at the Navrongo campus of the University for Development Studies (UDS) admitted 629 undergraduates and postgraduate students to pursue various programmes.

The Matriculates would pursue programmes in Applied Sciences, Mathematical Sciences and Earth and Environmental sciences.

Professor Albert Luguterah, Principal of the Navrongo Campus, addressing the fresh students on behalf of Professor Gabriel Ayum Teye, Vice Chancellor of the University during the 26th Matriculation of the University in Navrongo in the Upper East Region at the weekend, urged the students to ensure that they concentrated on the purpose for which they applied to be enrolled at the University.

He said the University had admitted a total number of 5,031 undergraduate students comprising 1,983 female and 3,048 males, while 360 students were also admitted to pursue postgraduate studies in various programmes across the three campuses with 78 females and 282 males.

Professor Luguterah observed that there was significant increase in the number of students registered from 3,254 in the 2017 and 2018 academic years to 5,038 in the current academic year, which represented 35.41 percent increment in student admissions this year.

The Principal expressed optimism with the female enrolment saying, there was modest increase in female enrolment from 1,552 in the 2017/2018 academic years to 1,983 in the 2018/2019 academic years, representing 21.73 percent.

He said 1,155 students were admitted to the University's Distance Education Programmes for all the centres within the UDS campuses in the three regions of the north.

Professor Luguterah urged the students to be law abiding, adding that the institution would not hesitate to punish any student who flouted the law.

The Principal called on the students to avoid social vices such as occultism and alcoholism among others and value their lives in order to achieve their academic ambitions.
