Obuasi, Oct. 26, GNA - Assembly members have been urged to support and ensure the effective implementation of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) by monitoring the collection of premiums in their electoral areas.

Mr John Sackey, the Assemblyman for New Nsuta-JJ electoral area in the Obuasi municipality, who gave the advice, said some of the collectors of the premiums were not accounting fully for the monies collected.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency at Obuasi on Monday about his experience in his electoral area, Mr Sackey said his collector had disappointed him because he was not accounting for the actual premiums collected from the people.

"It is not deliberate that the scheme is not progressing in my area. It has been hampered by the action of the collector", he said and appealed to the electorate to co-operate with who-ever became the new collector.

The Assemblyman emphasized the need for premium collectors to help make the scheme successful, since the health care delivery of the people was paramount.

Mr Sackey encouraged the people to pay up their premiums, whilst giving the assurance that those, who had fully paid up their premiums, would have their photographs taken without any delay.

He announced that house-to-house spraying exercise under the Obuasi Integrated Malaria Control Programme would soon start in the municipality and therefore asked the residents to prepare their houses and rooms for the exercise.
