Is Our Education System Poised?

Is Our Education System Poised?
07.10.2018 LISTEN

Our basic education system needed to be handled vehemently with utmost care to refrain from education tilting. Now, our basic education is not most an ordinary right which can be conferred on a child at will, but rather a legal right which is adequately provided for by the laws of the country with specific reference to our constitution.

Our daunting challenge that confronts Ghana’s education system is the lack of adequately suitable class rooms for all children to sit and learn comfortably. This challenge has led to innumerable school managers to improvise with trees under which children sit to receive teaching and learning. Meanwhile, a deliberation has been held to find a solution to the challenges confronting and bedeviling our education system but all to no avail.

Confidently speaking, schools under trees can still be found in various parts of the country. Obviously, it is also not surprising that huge disparities broadly exist between children from the endowed areas and those from the less endowed areas.

Educations, it is said, reduces equality, reduces or eliminate poverty drastically, foster tolerance, reach gender equality and empower people to live more healthy lives and so on.

It is in the light of all these that I call on Ministry of education and government to liaise with our school authorities specifically to ensure that all children in the country irrespective of their geographical location enjoy equal access and quality of education. It is also the most cardinal that the remaining schools that are still under trees are eliminated to give all children the opportunity to learn in a decent and conducive environment. We cannot develop as a nation when a section of our population is left to wallow in such dehumanising situation.

Let us, as a nation, ensure that every child benefits from erudition in a classroom where their lessons are not determined by the weather.

The hour is nigh for us as a nation to consciously and deliberately make provisions to ensure equality and equity in accessing basic necessities such as education.
