A 41 year old farmer at Hiamankyene in the Tain District, Mr. Kofi Amoah, has appealed to the government for electricity supply to be extended to his farm to enhance production.

The farmer asked the government to facilitate the granting of loans to farmers for expansion of their farms, since interests on bank loans are high and have shorter repayment periods, which affects their work.

Mr. Kofi Amoah of the El-shalom Farms made the appeal when the District Chief Executive (DCE), Lawyer Charity Akua Foriwaa Dwommoh, together with the District Director of Agriculture, Mr. S. Y Apiiga, and other officials from the District Assembly visited him on his farm.

With 18 permanent staff, Mr. Amoah has cultivated 175 acres of cashew at Hiamankyen, 165 acres of cashew at Fabewoso, four acres of teak trees, and has 120 acres of land yet to be cultivated.

With seven years experience in poultry production, Mr. Kofi Amoah, who started his poultry farm with only 20 birds, currently has 16,000 which produce 380 crates of eggs, 31 cattle, and 60 pigs. His sheds can take over 30,000 birds.

Mr. Kofi Amoah uses five gallons of fuel daily to power machines to grind maize to feed his birds, and uses gas to warm his day old chicks.

Madam Charity Akua Foriwaa Dwommoh assured the farmer of electricity and the reshaping of roads leading to his farm

She also said the government would continue to partner the private sector and development partners to implement various social, agricultural and economic interventions to help address poverty.
