Mampong Nkwanta (E/R), Oct. 25, GNA - The Akropong Constituency branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Sunday elected a 17-member executive with Mr Willie Addo Brown, as the chairman at a constituency conference at Mampong-Nkwanta.

Other members of the executive included the First Vice-Chairman, Alhaji Sumaila Mahama, Second Vice-Chairman, Mr Kofi Boahen, Secretary, Mr Francis Dogbe, Organiser, Mr Adjei Dwirantwi, Women Organiser, Ms Beatrice Djangba, Youth Oraginser, Mr Umaro Braimah, with Mr Kambona Mohammed Anagli as Treasurer.

Speaking at the function, the Eastern Regional Secretary of the party, Mr Anthony Gyampoh, called on members of the party to take over the ownership of the party by paying their dues regularly. He said through that, the branches would not need external support to organize their programmes and sponsor their representatives to meetings.

Mr Gyampoh called on the branches of the party to be vigilant and organize strong structures on the ground to mobilize the necessary support for the party to win the next elections. The Regional Organizer of the party, Mr Tawiah Boateng, observed that the greatest problem, which had prevented the party from winning the Akropong Constituency, had been deep divisions that often occurred within the party after the primaries to elect Parliamentary candidates of the party.

He noted that often, party members from one ethnic group refused to support candidates from another ethnic group and called on them to unite and support any candidate that the party would put up to enable the party to recapture the constituency.

Mr Boateng called on the delegates to vote to for dedicated members, who would be willing to sacrifice their time and resources to support the party to victory.

According to him, the members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had already conceded that they could lose the 2008 elections, "hence they have started buying new expensive cars costing 203 million cedis each for their Ministers to take away as parting gifts."

The out-going constituency Vice-Chairman, Nana Ankobea Manteaw, urged those contesting for positions in the party, to be dedicated and be prepared to fight for the party to win the next elections. The parliamentary candidate of the party for the 2004 elections, Mr Agyemfra Kumi, called on the members of the party to demonstrate the preparedness of the party to take over power by 2008.

Nana Serwa Totobi-Quakye, a leading member of the party, called on them to stop discrediting each other when contesting for positions so that any member of the party, who would become victorious could easily be marketed by the party.

In another development, the Eastern Regional Youth Wing of NDC on Saturday, elected Mr Kweku Asamoah as the Regional Youth Organiser, Mr Yaw Antwi as First Deputy Youth Organiser with Mr Herring Tetteh as Second Deputy Youth Organiser.

Ms Evelyn Korang was elected unopposed as the Regional Women Organiser, Ms Stella Ansah, First Deputy Women Organiser and Nana Akua Kumiwaa as Second Deputy Women Organiser. Oct. 25, 05
