Warehouse Projects In Volta Region Begin
04.10.2018 LISTEN

The Ministry of Special Development Initiatives (MSDI) has started the construction of warehouses in the Volta Region under the 'one million dollar per constituency' allocation.

The first three warehouses under construction in Ho Central, Hohoe and Krachi East Constituencies form part of the agriculture component of Infrastructure for Poverty Eradication Programme (IPEP).

Mr Kabore Awudu Moro, Public Relations Officer of the Ministry who briefed the media in Ho said, the 'the one District, one Warehouse' project would help reduce post harvest losses among smallholder farmers and support government's planting for job and food initiative.

He said the 1,000 metric tonnes pre-fabricated solar powered grain warehouses would have driers, mechanized water system and laboratory for testing.

Mr Moro said each facility would contain about 20,000 bags of grains and expected to create some 25 direct jobs in the constituencies and that the communities would also benefit from water and toilet facilities under the allocation.

He said apart from the government priority projects, the constituencies would also have community specific needs projects such as community markets, community centres, bridges, culverts and classroom blocks among others.

Mr Moro said similar projects were ongoing in all the development zones to accelerate the eradication of poverty and bridge inequalities in the country towards meeting Sustainable Development Goal one.

'Each 275 constituency has been allocated the cedi equivalent of US$ 1million this year, to be invested in infrastructure development for poverty alleviation,' he stated.

Mr Moro said by the end of 2018, 570 small dams and dugouts would be constructed under 'one village, one dam', 50 prefabricated warehouses built nationwide, 275 ambulances in all constituencies, 1000 institutional toilets and 1000 community based water projects provided under government's priority projects.
