The Sankore Police in the Asunafo South District of Brong-Ahafo has arrested two suspects believed to be among some young men who disrupted the regional celebration of this year's International Peace Day on Friday.

The program, under the theme 'The Right to Peace-The Universal Declaration of Human Rights at 70' was organised by the Regional Peace Council.

The suspects, Amos Asare, alias Anointing and one Isaac allegedly stormed the ground on motorbikes and wielding machetes and other offensive instruments threatened and frightened residents who had come to participate in the programme.

Residents and Journalists at the scene fled for their lives as the angry thugs scattered and destroyed some of the plastic chairs arranged for the event.

Chief Inspector Augustine Kingsley Oppong, the Regional Police Public Relations Officer, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Monday in Sunyani, that the two were arrested on Saturday, September 22, 2018 from their hideout at Sankore.

He said they had been detained at the Goaso Police Station in the Asunafo North Municipality and would be transferred to the Regional Police Headquarters to be prosecuted.

Chief Inspector Oppong said the Police was working vigorously to arrest all those who were involved in that disturbance and appealed to landlords to expose known Sankore indigenes suspected to be hooligans and had rented accommodation from them.

He observed that those criminals occasionally vanished from their rented homes to Sankore to cause trouble in that area and quickly return to hide in Sunyani.

Police patrol teams would continue to be in the area to protect the residents to ensure lasting peace, Chief Inspector Oppong added.
