Nine persons have been confirmed dead so far from severe floods in the Northern Region.

Several weeks of massive rains coupled with the Bagre dam spillage in neighbouring Burkina Faso caused the floods.

Media reports had put the death toll at 32 in the Northern Region alone.

But the Regional NADMO Boss, Alhaji Abdullah Hindu in a Citi News interview confirmed nine deaths.

He said NADMO in collaboration with Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) assessments arrived at the figure.

“Initially, the assessment reports that we got from the districts it was 12 deaths, but after conducting more assessment with the NGOs, we arrived at nine.”

Alhaji Hindu Abdullah said Savelugu, Daboya and Mogduri in Yagaba/Kubore were the worst affected districts.

According to him, about 1,800 people have been displaced, several households submerged and over 2,000 farmlands destroyed.

He said some of the victims were seeking refuge in churches and classrooms.
