Ogyedom Appiah Kubi Paabo Katakyie IV, the Paramount Chief of Sankore, has called for firm and decisive action to end recurring political violence in the town.

He said the impunity and lawlessness could not continue - they had had enough of that.

He made the call at a meeting with some government officials, attending a durbar in Sankore to mark the Brong-Ahafo Regional celebration of this year's International Peace Day.

Earlier, four machete-carrying young men, riding on motorbikes had gone on the rampage, damaging plastic chairs at the durbar grounds and threatening the lives of the people.

Their only reason was that they were opposed to the holding of the event in the town.

Ogyedom Katakyie, visibly unhappy about what had been going on in the area for some time now, asked that the security agencies did everything to make sure that nobody lived outside the law.

If that would require imposing curfew on the town and its surrounding communities - to bring calm, the chiefs and people were all for that.

The Omanhene blamed supporters of the two major political parties - the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the unending bouts of violence.

He said he found it deeply disturbing that the police appeared to have been petrified into inaction - something that had emboldened the trouble makers.

He wanted to see them go after those people so that they would be dealt with by the law to serve as deterrent to everybody.

He said it was regrettable that the development of the area should be held back by mindless political thuggery.

Alhaji Suallah Abdallah, the Executive Secretary of the Regional Peace Council, said the Council would leave no stone unturned to bring lasting peace to the area.

He condemned the action of the young men and appealed to the police to move quickly to apprehend and prosecute them.

He reminded the people that peace was a prerequisite for development and advised against political intolerance.

Mr. Osei Bonsu, the Asunafo South District Chief Executive, said the police and the District Security Council (DISEC), needed the support and cooperation of the chiefs and the law-abiding people to arrest and prosecute the troublemakers.

He gave the assurance that adequate security measures had been taken to ensure that the peace of the area was not threatened by anybody.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), Edward Oduro-Kwarteng, the Acting Regional Police Commander, vowed to maintain law and order in every part of the region.
