FORSA Contestant Raising Funds For Streetlights

Patience Sarbah, the Eastern Regional Representative of the Face of Road Safety in Africa (FORSA) is raising funds to provide streetlights in the Eastern Region.

FORSA is a beauty pageant being organized by the National Road safety Commission (NRSC) to create awareness on road accidents and the need to collectively provide street lights to improve visibility on the roads.

As part of the contest, each contestant is to choose a project based on national issue and rally the public's support to address it.

At a rally to launch the project dubbed 'light up the street' in Koforidua, Ms Sarbah said she is seeking to provide street lights on the identified accident prone areas in the region to ensure road safety.

She said some roads around Nsawam through Suhum and Nkawakw highway are her immediate target to provide streetlights due to darkness on that stretch of road and appealed to the public to support her.

Ms Sarbah at the launch donated three street bulbs worth GH¢900.00 to Nana Kwaku Dei, the Nkosuohene of Pakro, a community along the Suhum highway, to fix the streetlights in the area. Nana Kwaku Dei, commended the contestant for the project and urged the media to be advocates of the project by sensitizing the public on the need to contribute to the provision of streetlights in their communities.

Mr Abraham Lincoln, the Eastern Regional Marketing Officer of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), said provision of street lights is not a mandate of the ECG and appealed to the chiefs and community leaders to rally their people to raise funds for street lights.

He called on the public to be responsible for the maintenance of the street lights adding that residents around where the street lights are located should put them off during the day, to help maintain the life span of the bulbs. GNA
