The School of Peri-operative and Critical Care Nursing (SPOCN) at Korle-Bu has organised free health screening for residents of Glefe in the Ablekuma West Constituency.

This was part of the Corporate Social Responsibility of its 20th Anniversary under the theme, "Peri-operative and Critical Care Education in Ghana Past, Present and Future."

The Principal of SPOCN, Dr. Kwaku Asante Krobea said the screening is to provide medical care and support to community members to keep them fit and strong for a healthy lifestyle.

The exercise which drew huge numbers from the community went through screening for non-communicable diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity as well as education on family planning.

According to Dr. Kwaku Asante Krobea family planning is important and effective way for women to plan their sexual life especially for working mothers and low income earning communities.

Dr. Asante krobea cited that, inadequate funding, lack of infrastructure, inadequate accommodation for students and staff are some of the challenges facing the school.

He therefore appeals to government to support them with the needed fund from the consolidated fund to help expand the School in order to recruit more people for Peri-operative and critical care.
