Man To Stand Trial In Alleged Murder Of Abura-Dunkwa Royal

The man alleged to have murdered a royal couple at Abura-Dunkwa in the Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese (AAK) District has been committed to stand trial at a Cape Coast High Court.

Maswood Ali Baba, 27, an electrician's plea was not taken and the Cape Coast Magistrate's Court presided over by Mrs Rita Amoaniwaa Edusa remanded him into Police custody to be re-arraigned on Monday, September 24.

Assistant Superintendent of Police, Daniel Gadzo, told the court that the couple, Okyeame Kwadwo Mensah, 48 and his wife, Nana Efua, 42, were murdered in their room on the night of Sunday, September 2.

He said the couple were found with their throats slashed and in a pool of blood but their attacker did not take anything from their room.

Baba was arrested after a painstaking investigation by the Regional Criminal Investigations Department (CID) when it came out that Baba lodged with the deceased couple on the night of their death.

Meanwhile a release signed by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), Paul Manly Awini, the Central Regional Commander, has pledged the Service's commitment to maintain maximum security across the region for people go about their normal duties.

"Central Regional Police Command wishes to assure the general public of their maximum protection and urges the general public to offer any information to the Police in the fight against crime," the release said.
