The Municipal Chief Executive for Obuasi, Hon Elijah Adansi-Bonah together with the Municipal Coordinating Director, Justice Amoah, Municipal Director of Education, Mrs. Regina Teni Musah Mummuni and some officials of the Education Directorate on Monday, 17th September, 2018, visited some basic schools in the Municipality.

The visit was to interact and welcome fresh pupils entering basic schools and encourage them to help sustain their interest in school. The team visited the Awurade Basa, Kwabena Fori, Saquafiya and Anyinam Primary Schools. Whiles presenting items which included crayons, sandals, exercise books, sharpeners, pencils, erasers and purse to the excited pupils, The Obuasi MCE encouraged them to take their studies seriously and be punctual in school. He added that Education is the only way through which they can attain a better life in future.

Addressing the media shortly after the tour, Hon. Adansi-Bonah thanked the President, His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo for providing the items to be distributed to the pupils. This he said underlines the commitment of the President to education.

He encouraged parents to prioritize their wards education especially at the basic level to enable the children enjoy government’s Free Senior High School.

He again disclosed that throughout the tour, he discovered that furniture has been the number one challenge in all the schools he visited. Refreshingly, he added, the Member of Parliament for Obuasi West Constituency, Hon. Kwaku Kwarteng has taken it upon himself to address the furniture challenges in Awona and Kokotiasua schools, whiles the Municipal Assembly will deal with the rest of the schools.

39 pupils reported at Kwabena Fori Primary, 14 reported at Awurade Basa, 4 pupils reported at Saquafiya Islamic whiles 30 reported at Anyinam Methodist. This in the view of the Municipal Director of Education, Mrs. Regina Teni Musah Mummuni was encouraging but said she is anticipating more pupils to enroll in coming days.

She felicitated the President and the Municipal Chief Executive for the items but was concerned about the lack of furniture in the schools. Her only delight she stated was the assurances from the MCE that the Assembly is in the process of supplying the schools with furniture.
