Central Region: Government Embarks On Massive Road Works

Mr Kwaku Ofori Asiamah, Minister for Roads and Transport, has re-affirmed government's determination to improve the road network in the Central Region.

This, he said, would open up the region and enormously ease commuting distances, attract and retain investments to create employment for the people.

Mr Asiamah, who was speaking at separate durbars in the Central Region as part of the President's four-day tour of the region which ended on Monday, September 17, pledged the Ministry's commitment to ensure that contractors delivered quality standard roads.

The Roads Minister said major roads such as the 23 kilometre Mankessim -Dominase -Abura Dunkwa and 20 kilometre Afrangua -Saltpond which were awarded by the previous government but abandoned would be completed.

The rest included a GH¢30 million Mankessim-Baafikrom Abease-Dominase road, Mankessim-Eyinda township roads, Ekumfi Ekwamkrom-Asakwa-Suprudo-Mankessim roads.

He said pothole patching of Mankessim-Ajumako, Suprudo-Edumfa-Emisano and a GH¢13.5 million bridge would be completed by the end of the year.

In addition to that, road projects scheduled to be completed are the Mankessim town roads and market circle culverts, Krofo - Mankessim Senior High Technical School, Oyirefo junction - Mankessim-Dominase-Abura, Kurankyekrom to Saltpond Zongo roads.

In the Gomoa East, Central and West districts, he said construction works has commenced on the 15 kilometre Kyeren Nkwanta - Mando and Gomoa Assin town roads which would cost GH¢25.2 million and a 32 kilometre Apam-Ankamu-Afransi-Agona Swedru roads.

The rest are the six kilometre Ostew-Mankoadze and six kilometre Ostew-Obrawogum roads expected to cost GH¢16.4million as well as the 12 kilometre Ankamu junction-Apam and Apam-Ankamu-Afransi-Agona and Manford-Otuam roads were undergoing bidding processes.

In the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) Municipality, Mr Ofori-Asiamah mentioned roads to receive upgrading to include a 5 kilometre Komenda junction-town and a 6 kilometre Komenda College of Education internal feeder roads expected to cost GH¢11.8million.

It also included a five kilometre Komenda town roads scheduled to begin in four-weeks at a cost of GH¢15.5million as well as the completion of Benya lagoon bridge at Elmina.

The Roads Minister announced that other itinerary roads linking the Benya bridge has also been given to contractors. GNA
