The ASA Savings and Loans Limited has presented a scholarship package worth Gh₵10,000 to 20 needy but brilliant children in Primary and Junior High Schools (JHSs) in Lapaz, Accra.

The 20 beneficiaries, who form the first batch of the scholarship award are made up of five primary pupils and 15 JHS students from different schools.

Aside that, free medical screening was organized for 200 clients and people within Lapaz and its environ for treatment such as blood pressure, hepatitis B, malaria, sugar level, breast cancer plus free medicine.

The company also donated 50 insecticide treated mosquito nets to some clients and individuals who took part in the medical screening worth GH₵2,500.

Speaking at the awards ceremony, the Chief Executive Officer of ASA International, Dirk Brouwer said the scholarship forms part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to support brilliant but needy students in the society.

He noted that they believe that their business in the community will not be complete without empowering people through education which is the key to success.

Mr. Brouwer indicated that the aim of the scholarship scheme is to empower children to realize their dreams and full potentials through philanthropic activities to enable them contribute to the socio-economic development of the country.

“As part of our business operations it is important that we help our clients and the broader community in which we operate to provide all kind of support to improve their livelihood. There are several kinds of ailments our clients mostly women are suffering from and we saw the need to respond quickly to address them by organizing frequent medical screening plus free medicine,” he stated.

He added that the medical screening is intended to help clients get rid of any medical complications in order to stay healthy and continue with business smoothly.

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) of ASA International, Mohammed Enamul Haque said the company intends to introduce educational loans for Primary and JHSs students and subsequently to the SHS students.

According to him, the move is to enable their clients finance the education of their wards without any struggle.

The Managing Director of ASA Savings and Loans Limited, Ghana, Mohammed Aourongjeb said the scholarship is a novelty package which will finance the 20 beneficiaries to the tertiary level in any courses of their choice.

According to him, the company also intend rolling out mobile services to enable customers transact business on their phones with convenience and ease next year.

He emphasized that this year the company increased the budgeted from US$35,000 to US$75,000 to support communities in which they operate in the area of providing mechanized boreholes, scholarships to needy but brilliant students, medical screening with free medicines, distribution of mosquito nets, donation to orphanages and underprivileged schools.
