Kingmakers Urged To Install Qualified Royals To Avoid Ligations

Nana Yaa Ansua, the paramount queen of Drobo Traditional Area, has called on kingmakers to act with extreme care when choosing and installing qualified royals to the throne.

She said unduly extending the period before a new chief is installed must be avoided as entrenched positions could occur leading to needless misunderstandings and sometimes conflicts.

Nana Ansua said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency.

She said in the event of the death or destoolment of a paramount chief, monetary considerations must be relegated to the background by the Amanhemaa and their kingmakers.

Nana Ansua said during such times, the supreme interest of the people was paramount and this must take precedence over all other considerations.

She said the paramount queen 'whose acceptance or approval of a nominee is the ultimate decider', must be honest and reach a compromise with other stakeholders to settle on a suitable and qualified candidate for enstoolment.

Drobomanhemaa said the installation of the most qualified heirs as chiefs was a natural course of action for peace and progress in the traditional areas and this promoted socio-economic development in the society.

'We must avoid monetary considerations because this is not helping our people and it is tarnishing the image of the time-honoured chieftaincy institution', Nana Ansua said.

It would be recalled that Nana Ansua and the entire members of the Drobo Traditional Council achieved a rare feat in the recent history of chieftaincy in Brong-Ahafo when in less than 24 hours after the burial of the late paramount chief of the area, Beyeeman Bosea Gyinanatwi IV; his successor, Okokyeredom Sakyi Ako II took office after he swore the oath of allegiance to the chiefs and people of the Drobo State.

Okokyeredom Ako, known in private life as Mr Wilson Benneh is an Economist, Development Planner and Policy Analyst by profession.

Beyeeman Gyinantwi was interred in the early hours of Monday, May 14, 2018.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo accordingly commended the Council for the quick, peaceful and progressive manner that the enstoolment was done.

Currently in the Brong-Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs membership includes 50 traditional areas, comprising 46 paramount chiefs and four divisional chiefs. Of the 46 paramount chiefs, 17 stools are still vacant.
