GJA Calls For Truce In Angel Fm,NDCNPP Impasse

The Brong Ahafo Branch of the Ghana journalists Association (GJA) has called on the management of Angel Broadcasting Network (ABN) to takes steps to resolve its impasse with the two major political parties.

The NPP and NDC in separate statements last week boycotted all political programmes on Angel Fm,ABN’s radio station based in Sunyani,accusing them of being bias.

The NPP in a statement on Tuesday,11th September, signed by Regional Director of Communications,Asare Baffour Seth accused host and production crew of Angel Fm’s morning show of being ‘arbitrary’ and ‘dictatorial’.

The party further accused the station of exhibiting “highly unprofessional conduct and open bias targeted at NPP radio panelists and serial callers”.

The NDC in its statement on Thursday,September 13th also accused the station of doing the bid of the NPP.

The GJA in a statement signed by the Brong Ahafo Regional Secretary,Mr Denis Peprah,condemned the occurrence and called on management of ABN to intervene.

The Association noted the critical role the media and political parties play in consolidating Ghana’s democracy.

“Undoubtedly,the important role of the media and political parties towards nurturing Ghana’s infant democracy cannot be over-emphasized,hence the need for the media and political parties to work in an atmosphere of peace and build on our democratic principles of government”

The GJA further assured political parties of its readiness to ensure a level playing field for all across the media platforms in the region.
