British Airways thrills customers with 2018 edition of ‘The Cacao Show’

British Airways celebrated ‘Accra’s third tastiest day’ in style, with a spectacular cake modelled on its iconic Boeing 747 ‘jumbo jet’ aircraft.

The cake, designed and baked by Deborah Adjei-Tawiah of Sweetintins Couture Cakes, had layers of white chocolate cake, light chocolate cake with chocolate chips, dark chocolate cake, surrounded by dark chocolate ganache, and weighed about 18kg.

Kola Olayinka, British Airways’ Regional Commercial Manager for West Africa said that the cake was a special surprise to celebrate the airline’s 80th year of operations in Ghana. “We decided not to mark the occasion with a single event, but rather integrate it with the local activities we support. The Cacao Show is one of these.” ,” he explains.

British Airways began operating a Boeing 747-400 aircraft on the Accra-London route in March 2014, which boosted the airline’s daily capacity to 337 customers in a four-cabin configuration – First, Club World [Business Class], World Traveller Plus [Premium Economy Class] and World Traveller [Economy Class]. This is the largest aircraft serving Ghana from overseas.

“One of the reasons we’ve been able to operate here successfully for 80 years is because we’re constantly looking to improve our offering,” says Olayinka.

British Airways’ is investing £4.5 billion for customers over the next five years. This includes new catering, onboard products and the installation of the best quality WiFi and power in every seat, fitting 128 long-haul aircraft with new interiors and taking delivery of 72 new aircraft.

The Cacao Show’ originally run as a chocolate or cocoa-based dessert competition during the annual Vittles Food Festival event, with British Airways sponsoring a prize of a return ticket to London for the winner. The contest allowed bakers, chefs and chocolatiers to showcase their skills at using one of Ghana’s most important food products, and previous events have involved some very exciting, delicious and creative cakes and handmade chocolates.
