The Member of Parliament for Ellembele, Hon Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah has challenged all stake holders in education to focus on how to support teachers in rural areas.

The MP made the call when he presented a cheque of ten thousand Ghana Cedis (GH10, 000) to 147 Teachers in the Northern part of the Ellembele constituency.Out of the number, 69 are trained teachers whilst the 78 are untrained. The area is very hard to reach and teachers historically are very reluctant to accept posting to these areas.

He had earlier promised the teachers of his annual support to help them and as a show of appreciation for their sacrifices.

The drive behind this, is to motivate teachers already posted to the area, encourage others to accept posting to the area and to ensure that performance with respect to education in the area is not taking for granted.

According to the MP, he has carried out a lot of interventions in the area ranging from health care facilities, electricity extension, road networks just to mention a few, however he is very passionate about education especially in the rural areas.

He said ‘’I think that we need to do more when it comes to education, and I am very optimistic that with the measures we are putting in place, we will soon witness more qualified trained teachers being posted to the Aiyinasi North, tremendously increase in enrolment and attendance, improved educational facilities and others, all will enhance the quality of education in the area which will subsequently lead to academic performance among students and schools found in the region.

Receiving the money on behalf of the teachers, Mr Lawer Benedict, the head teacher of Kroboline D/A primary thanked the MP and recalled the numerous gestures over the years of the MP. ‘’Your commitment to education for the rural poor is so exemplary and keeps us motivated" he said.

The teachers listed some of their challenges including well-constructed school buildings as well as teaching and learning materials and the MP assured them of his continued Support after donating 150 dual desks to Kroboline D/A primary school and Kwasikrom primary and JHS. He has also pledged to support untrained teachers to upgrade themselves in order to enhance the quality of teaching in the northern schools.

They have however assured their MP of their continue support to see to the realization of his vision of improved access, quality and performance of education in the remote part of Ellembele.

Other educational interventions that the MP is engaged in which are improving on academic performance in his area include, conducting special mock examination for BECE candidates, supplying Mathematical sets for BECE candidates, registering students for Nov/Dec Exams, supplying of dual tasks to schools and paying of school fees especially for tertiary students and scholarship opportunities for master’s degree programmes in oil and gas and other related courses.
