Biney Jephet, a 24-year-old electrician who posed as a military officer is in the firm grips of police in the Eastern Region.

The suspect allegedly defrauded one Emelia Amoah of a total of GH¢ 25,000.00 with the motive of securing an enlistment into the military for her.

Confirming the arrest to Citi News the Eastern Regional Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ebenezer Tetteh said the command is processing documents to arraign the suspect.

“On September 12th at about 9:30 pm Emelia Amoah, aged 34 a restaurant manageress at Linda Dor, Koforidua assisted by four military men from Oguaa base, Koforidua arrested suspect Jephet Biney, aged 24 an Electrician at Nungua, Accra together with three framed military dressed photographs of the said suspect and the former reported that the suspect posed to her as a military officer”.

“According to the complainant on August 10th, the suspect collected cash the sum of Ghc 9,000.00 from her under the pretext of enlisting her into the Ghana Armed Forces. On September 4th the suspect again collected Ghc 16,000 from her under the pretext of buying some goods for sale at peacekeeping mission Lebanon and pay her back on his return but failed to do so. All efforts made to retrieve the money proved futile”.

“Meanwhile three framed photographs has been retained and the suspect Japhet Biney is in our custody as we speed up processing his documents for court."
