The World Hails Kofi Annan At State Funeral

The global community on Thursday September 13, hailed Mr Kofi Atta Annan, a former Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN) at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) for his 43 years of humanitarian service at the UN.

Kind words were poured out for the Peace icon, not only from the corridors of Ghana, but also Cameroon, Nigeria, Japan, Germany and Senegal, among other mourners, from all walks of life.

Others also used artistic works, played and sang dirges, distributed Gospel tracts on peace and many more to portray the personality of the former UN Secretary General.

He did not only bring peace to the world but also brought the UN to the door step of all manner of persons during his tenure of office, said Madam Doris Gonyoe, a Ghanaian mourner.

'I am proud of him and he should be hailed for his contribution and the status he attained as a Ghanaian, he is my role model,' she told the Ghana News Agency (GNA).

Mr Sidique Hamza, a Nigerian and a member of the 'Ba Zooka-Fuji-Band Organisation,' a cultural ensemble said, he and his group had come to pay their tribute to what he described as 'the father of the world'.

Mr Prince Divine Akere 'Nwei, a Cameroonian, described Kofi Annan as a great man, 'who served Africans exceedingly well and it is a pride to all Africans and the world'.

'He is a gift to humanity who fought for the rights of the oppressed to bring peace to the whole world,' he noted, saying, 'Ghana should be proud of him as well as Africans and the world. His legacy of peace would always be remembered.

Mr Maxwell Antwi, the artist, who also did a portrait of the Former Secretary-General, said it was his last respect to the fallen giant and that the work would be donated to the Kofi Annan's Foundation.
