The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the newly created Tema West Municipal Assembly (TWMA) has paid a courtesy call on the Tema Mantse, Nii Adjei Kraku II.

Mrs. Adwoa Amoako, who is the first MCE of the TWMA and first female to be chief executive in Tema, says she used the occasion to inform the chief of her appointment and also ask for his blessing during her tenure.

In an address at the Tema Mantse Palace on Wednesday during the visit, Mrs. Amoako observed the need for the visit and her interaction with the Tema Manste by saying, 'My visit is important because if you go to somebody's house without paying homage to the owner, it doesn't show respect.'

She used the occasion to inform the chief of her four-year development plan which was necessary for the development of the new municipality, adding that, 'The visit is about our vision for Tema West and to discuss what is ahead of the municipality and our plight.'

She observed that the plan would include establishing a modern market complex in the newly developed areas of the municipality to advance economic activities and also to establish another senior high school to complement Tema Secondary School which was the only one in the municipality.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on the sidelines of the visit, Mrs. Amoako said she was prepared to tackle sanitation which was a major problem in the Municipality and ensure a clean and healthy community for the people of Tema West.

She informed of the construction of offices for the TWMA at the Mexico School, Community Two.

The Municipal Coordinating Director (MCD), Mr. Bediako Oberempon Asare, in his address, asked the chief to make inputs into the development plan the Assembly was putting together to make it more representative of the will and needs of the Tema community.

In appreciating the visit, Nii Kraku II observed that the visit would give him the opportunity to interact with the MCE and advise her on issues that would be beneficial to the Tema community.

Giving his consent for the construction of a new market, the chief asked the MCE to consider renovating the Community Two market as well to make it more viable and expand the economic activities within the new municipality.

As part of the visit, the MCE presented five crates of soft drinks, one carton of foreign schnapps and an undisclosed amount of money to the stool.
