Kpandai (N/R), Oct.17, GNA - Mr Ayadong Bawu, Regent of Kpandai, has appeal to the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development to create a separate district for the Kpandai area, which is under the East Gonja District.

He said a separate district would promote the rapid development of the area. Mr. Bawu who made the appeal in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) at Kpandai on Sunday, said the chiefs and people of the area had petitioned the Ministry for a separate district but had not received a reply. He called on the Ministry of Health to provide the Kpandai hospital with a medical practitioner for the utilisation of medical equipment provided by the German Government to the hospital, which were lying idle.

Mr. Bawu who is also an Assemblyman, said the health authorities had taken some of the equipment to Tamale and warned that the people would resist any attempt to remove the remaining equipment out of the area. He appealed to the Government to provide the area with potable water because the 13 boreholes constructed by the Catholic Church for the communities were inadequate.

The assemblyman said television signals in the area had been poor and the people, especially children, had been denied educational and other programmes and urged the Government to address the situation. Mr Bawu said the Kpandai area was endowed with mango and palm trees and appealed to investors to establish agro-processing factory in the area to offer employment to the youth.

Dr. Kwasi Twumasi, Deputy Northern Regional Director in charge of Public Health, in an interview on the medical equipment denied that the German Government had provided medical equipment to the Kpandai Hospital as alleged. He said the Ghana Health Service had sent medical equipment to Kanchina Hospital near Kpandai.
