Residents of Oyoko, a suburb of the New Juaben North Municipality, have appealed to the Eastern Regional Police Command to immediately shut down Obrepon Spot, a popular drinking bar in the area.

They have also called for the immediate arrest of the proprietor of the place, since it has become a source of the surging crime in the area.

According to the information, the residents have reported many times to the traditional and political leadership to ensure that the spot is closed down immediately, because it is disturbing the peace and security of the area.

The paper was told that Obrepon Spot has become a safe haven for all sort of negative activities such as smoking of wee among other narcotic drugs, a situation the residents described as a threat to their lives and businesses.

Further information indicated that some students of Oyoko Methodist Senior High School (SHS) jump over the school wall to the spot to indulge in all sort of negative acts, including smoking of wee and taking hard alcoholic drinks.

Last week Friday, a 37 year old, Samuel Kofi Appiah, a resident of the area and a patron of the spot, died untimely when he was stabbed multiple times in the face.

The unemployed man was rushed to the Koforidua Regional Hospital for treatment, but was pronounced dead upon arrival by the medical officer on duty

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Eastern Regional Command of the Ghana Police Service, DSP Ebenezer Tetteh, revealed that the police received information that fateful day to the effect that a certain Samuel Kofi Appiah had been stabbed a number of times in the face.

According to the information, the wounds sustained by the deceased were inflicted on him by his friend, Gideon Frimpong, 25, who is also unemployed and also a resident of Oyoko, when the two engaged in a scuffle after the deceased had ran an errand for the suspect.

Even though the PRO confirmed that the suspect has since been remanded into prison custody for investigations to continue, he could not confirm whether the spot has been or would be closed down.

When this reporter asked him whether the spot has been closed down, he responded: “I don't know whether is closed down or not.”
