Cobby Boahene elected new North America NDC Chairman

Saturday, October 15, 2005 CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, USA: Enthusiastic members of the NDC from Canada and USA in North America converged in this beautiful City of Chicago and elected Mr. Cobby Boahene as the new Chairman of NACC-NDC. He took over from Mr. Ebby Koney, Esq. who retired after serving as Chairman since 1998. The newly elected General Secretary, Dr Sallar, a University Professor flew in from a 4-day University foreign seminar to an overwhelming ovation from the members.

The list of the newly elected executive comprises;

Chairman: Mr. Cobby Boahene

First Vice Chairman: Mr Simon D. K. Adzraku

Second Vice Chairman: Mr. Zaccharia Adamah

General Secretary: Dr. Anthony Mawuli Sallar

Deputy General Secretary: Mr. Fred Tay

Inter Chapter Coordinator: Mr. Francis Obeng Ameyaw

Deputy Inter Chapter Coordinator: Mr. Simons Addo

Women's Coordinator: Mrs. Victoria Sampah

Deputy Women's Coordinator: Ms. Josephine Gbediame

Treasurer: Ms. Comfort Laryea

Deputy Treasurer: Mr. Bismarck Agbemenule

After his victory, the new chairman Mr. Cobby Boahene, announced the formation of Committee of Elders and Fundraising Committee. He outlined criteria for membership of the Committee of Elders as “all past and present chairpersons of NACC and the various chapters, patrons, academics, former diplomats, ministers and holders of all honorary positions in North America….The committee would deliberate on any issues it deems fit and offer wise counsel on them”. The Fundraising Committee would spearhead fundraising drive towards elections 2008.

In their first executive action, the chairman, after consultation with his new executive, announced the appointment of Mr. Mustapha Ahmed as International Liaison Officer to coordinate activities with other foreign branches of the party.

RESOLUTION:

NACC-NDC made the following Resolution on the way forward for NDC.

The General Meeting of the North America Coordinating Council of the NDC (NACC-NDC), taking place on Saturday, October 15, 2005, in Chicago, United States of America hereby resolves as follows:

The North America Coordinating Council of NDC recognizing the need for ultimate victory in the 2008 elections in Ghana calls upon the national party of the NDC in Ghana to close ranks, avoid unnecessary squabbles and ensure progressive unity for the future betterment of the party.

NACC-NDC recognizing the need to lay a firm foundation towards victory 2008 for our great NDC party in Ghana has decided to establish a Committee of Elders and a Fundraising Committee as pivotal instruments in the mother of all political battles ahead of us.

NACC-NDC recognizes that visionary wisdom demands that the Committee of Elders shall comprise all past and present chairpersons of NACC and the various chapters, patrons, our seasoned academics, former diplomats, former ministers, and holders of all honorary positions here in North America. It shall also include all who consider themselves elders of our party in North America. The committee shall deliberate on any issues it deems fit and offer wise counsel on them.

NACC-NDC notes that to ensure strategic victory in elections 2008, a Fundraising Committee shall be established to be a lifeline of the political campaigns ahead of us. The committee shall spearhead the fundraising and logistics drive of NACC-NDC towards the elections. All members, friends and sympathizers are welcomed on the committee.

NACC-NDC formally recognizes honorary services performed by some members over the years. That NACC-NDC recognizes the outgoing Chairman, Hon. Ebby Koney, Esq, as the Honorary Advocate General of NACC-NDC to give legal counsel to the organization and its members. NACC-NDC shall also recognize Professor Dr. Ago K. M. Quaye and Mr. Simons Addo as Honorary Electoral Commissioner and Honorary Deputy Electoral Commissioner respectively to advance electoral counsel on NACC-NDC issues.

Pursuant to the aforementioned and the strategic imperative to ensure victory in elections 2008 for our great National Democratic Congress party of Ghana, this meeting calls upon all members, friends, and sympathizers of NDC to redouble their efforts towards elections 2008, visit our website, www.ndcnorthamerica.com, and make significant contributions by any means necessary, to the National Democratic Congress party of Ghana.
